Synopsis
Her Marked was more than just precious to her, he was precious in ways the world could only fathom. If she failed, she failed everyone.Alyx Rayer's existence in Atlanta, the eternally bustling capital of Georgia, is one of routine and blending in among the worker bees. Excerpt
She sat with her knees bent to her chest, and the flickering of the street light below stole her attention. With her chin buried into her shoulder, she watched as the moths danced and wove around it, bumping into the light and darting around one another with a clumsy kind of gracefulness. In that moment, a realization manifested – she wasn’t so different from them.
This painter man was her light - an alluring glow her soul migrated to.
She certainly felt lost in some ways, her place within the world a façade for a higher calling, but he was the one place that was real and constant. The one place that, despite her better judgment, called to her. That she truly connected to. And although these moths probably knew this wasn’t their home and was an artificial light source, they stayed there or continued coming back. When they flew away from the light, it took their eyesight a lot longer to adjust to the darkness so they migrated back out of instinct. She recognized a similarity there as well. Being away from the rooftop and in the real world didn’t have the same appeal. Even Benjamin’s light didn’t burn bright enough to keep her away from her Marked. She always made her way back around to the rooftop, even if it meant that she was possibly going in the wrong direction.

Marked for Vengeance has so much potential. I think that each book will get better as we get into the series. The first part of this book was more about introducing characters and setting up the story. I would have preferred it to be a bit more integrated. Still, it picked up as it went along.Alyx is not human. She's on her third and final watch of a marked human. She has been living a human's "life". This time is different because she becomes obsessed with her mark, single dad Isaac. Alyx may be an angel, but this life she is making human mistakes and feeling human emotions. Alyx's character doesn't click right away, but she grew on me by the end of the book. Isaac and his son were much more genuine and likable. As Issac and Micah's fates become more clear, it's time for Alyx to do the job she was sent down for. She has decisions to make that will impact not only her and Isaac, but possibly the whole of humanity.
The pacing of the book was off and it was a little repetitive, but if you give it a chance, you will be sucked into the second half. I now definitely want to read the next book. SJ Pierce has so many options she can go with. I want to see how it plays out and what happens with Alyx, Isaac, and his son.

This is the first book by this author that I have read. I'm hooked!! Her story draws you in, and keeps you reading. If you like a good vs. evil, grab this series. In this first book you meet Alyx. She's a protection Angel sent to earth to watch her marked one. Always told to blend in, she lives her life like anyone else would. Dating the same man for a year, she has come to care for him, but the draw of her mark is stronger. The problem with that is, she is not to have contact with him until the time comes. Fate has other ideas. Now to dive into book 2!!!!

Alyx is an angel sent to Atlanta to be near her Marked in case she is called upon to protect him. She is given rules to observe him, but have no contact with him whatsoever. Will she obey the rules? What happens if she disobeys? Will she be punished for meeting her Marked, Isaac? Does she know about his son? There are so many questions in part one, where the suspense builds with each situation. In part two, only a few of those questions are answered. Just enough to make the reader buy the sequel immediately to find out WHY.S.J. Pierce wrote an exquisite story. Part two could have gone in a hundred different directions. Which is why I was in awe that it flowed from part one to part two as the ocean flows on the sand. Beautifully written and captivating.
This is the most unusual love story I have ever read. It raises a lot of questions, not just about what happens to Alyx and Isaac. It's an intriguing tale of forbidden love.
Recommended for everyone.

This is an excellent first installment in dystopian trilogy about hybrid angel Alyx Rayer and her role in saving Earth from an evil Arc Angel Serpious who has gone rogue. I enjoyed the the all too human character Alyx very much and look forward to the next two books in the series. I Highly recommend this book. I received a free copy of this book for an honest review...

Honestly, this book deserves more than three stars but there is no 3.5 star rating. It was slow to start as the characters began to develop. The plot was treading water until the halfway point and then it began to spiral and take depth. A mix of life questions and lessons appear throughout the story. I am intrigued and plan to buy the second and third books to see where Alyx, Cindra, and Issac have in store for them.

I love to read, and will try just about any title. When I purchased this book, I didn't have any type of expectation, but I was enthralled by the fast paced story line, exciting characters and tantalizing plot. There are some changes that can be made such as more connection between parts of the book, and a little less focus on non essential elements but overall it doesn't detract from the story. I purchased the second book and am eagerly awaiting the third!

I enjoyed the premise right from the beginning. The guardian angle perspective was new to me and very intriguing. The flaws were in the editing - page gaps, line spacing etc. These can be very distracting. Started a little slow but picked up. Curious to see where the series goes. I would recommend it.
